Department Description

The Department of Planning & Development is charged with ensuring Woonsocket is a quality place to live, work, and visit. The Department includes the Building Inspection & Code Enforcement Division, the Housing & Community Development Division, the Planning Division which staffs the Planning Board, Design Review Commission, and River Corridor Review Commission, and the Zoning Division which staffs the Zoning Board of Review. 

Additionally, the Department oversees the administration of various grant programs including the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Housing Programs, the Brownfields Program, and the Lead Hazard Reduction Program.

Hazard Mitigation & Flood Management Plan

The City is updating its Hazard Mitigation & Flood Management Plan in coordination with consultant firm VHB and the Hazard Mitigation Working Group. Click here for a copy of the updated Plan.

2024 Comprehensive Plan
